GE to set up $200 million manufacturing facility in Pune

According to reports, the $150-billion global conglomerate General Electric (GE) will set up its first integrated manufacturing facility in India at Pune in Maharashtra with an upfront investment of $200 million (Rs.1,000 crore), a top official said Monday. “The $200-million manufacturing facility at Pune will focus on making products for the Indian market with increasing localisation,” GE chief executive Jeffrey R. General Electric Moves Wind Turbine Production from Chennai to New India Unit in Pune

Accoring to reports, General Electric Co. (GE), the world’s second-biggest maker of wind turbines, shifted production in India to the west, with the country’s most untapped potential for the alternative power, from a saturated southern market. Biogas plants from organic waste lights up streets of Pune, Maharashtra

According to reports, electricity generated by processing organic household waste is being used to light up the streets of Maharashtra’s Pune city’s many as 225 streetlamps have been lit up by power generated by biogas plants. The initiative, which was taken by the local municipal corporation, has been aimed to set up five more power plants towards the end of 2011. GE plans to make wind turbine parts in India including blades
