As informed by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), no opposition is being faced from local populations, for keeping their lands and rivers intact under the Himachal Pradesh Clean Energy Development Investment Programme (HPCEDIP), funded by Asian Development Bank. Himachal Pradesh hopes to become ‘power state’ of India

Himachal Pradesh has abundant water resources, with five major rivers flowing from the western Himalayas. Its power generation potential is about 23,000 MW – about one fourth of India’s total hydropower potential – out of which about 6,480 MW has been developed.
