India’s Carbon Credit Market to triple by 2012 to Rs 4000 Crore : CRISIL Research

A surge in renewable energy investments could drive a tripling of U.N.-backed carbon offsets issued to emission reduction projects in India by end-2012, a report said on Thursday. “Mini Power Plants” deliver power on a ” Pay for use” model at Rs2/day in villages in Bihar

Today’s The  Economic Times talks about a Patna-based NGO, Husk Power Systems (HPS), uses the husk-based gasifier technology to provide electricity using 32 kWe (40 kVA) plants that deliver power on a “pay-for-use’’ basis to households in the rice-producing belt of India at about Rs 2 per day per household, located within a radius of 1.5 km. Astonfield and Belectric Team up to Realize 5MW Solar Power Plant in Rajasthan, India

Astonfield seems to have submitted an application for a 5 MW solar power plant in Osiyan, Rajasthan and the project was submitted prior to the new Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission ( JNNSM) and hence is  eligible to be approved under the new migration policy.  The company has indicated that the land for the project has been obtained on a long-term lease  and an agreement of execution has been entered into by Astonfield and Belectric. American Company leases 5000 Acres of land in Tamilnadu for Biomass Plantation

Indian companies have been acquiring land parcels for various agricultural and energy plantation activities in numerous countries in SE Asia, Africa and of late Latin America citing difficulty and procedural challenges in acquiring such vast tracts of land.
