Simbhaoli Sugars enters into a clean power generation JV with Sindicatum Sustainable Resources

Simbhaoli Sugars Limited (SSL), one of the country’s largest sugar refiners, announced that it has entered into a joint venture with Sindicatum Sustainable Resources Group (“Sindicatum”) a global developer, investor and operator of clean energy projects. Renewable Energy minister Abdullah to present biomass energy plan to cabinet soon

According to reports,  The government may soon bring out a national mission on biomass, on the lines of the one on solar energy, to promote greater investment into renewable energy sources, Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said today. “We are working on the National Mission on Biomass, which we will be putting before the cabinet. Seven biogas plants lying idle in Kochi,Kerala

According to reports, while the Kochi Corporation is wondering where to dump the tonnes of garbage produced in the city everyday, seven biogas plants constructed in various parts of the city lie in a dilapidated state. The biogas plants at the Ayurveda Hospital compound at Fort Kochi, Pachalam Market, Edappally, Mattanchery and at the Kaloor slaughterhouse have been lying inoperative for long. Two more Biomass Cookstove Projects under Implementation

Curb speculation, scrap biofuel sops in India to check food price volatility: FAO panel

According to reports, speculation on the futures market and diversion of food for energy use in the form of biofuels, among a few other factors, has contributed to food price volatility of recent years. Forest dept to install bio-digester technology in eco-tourism spots

According to reports, the state forest department has launched an eco-tourism plan at the eco-tourism centres and the forest rest houses in the state. Among other things, the plan, which begins in Vidarbha, involves installation of bio-digester technology at these places. Bio-digesters, developed by the Delhi-based Defence Research Development Organisation ( DRDO), convert organic waste into nutrient-rich liquid fertiliser and biogas, which can be used a renewable source of electrical and heat energy. Karnataka facing 27% power shortage

According to reports, Karnataka is passing through 27 per cent power shortage mainly due to sudden spurt in demand from the irrigation sector and reduction in power generation due to coal shortages.
