India has announced a goal of reducing the emissions intensity of its GDP by 20-25% by the year 2020, as compared to 2005. In a rather interesting report yesterday, Bloomberg has highlighted the fact that Tata Power, India’s largest non- state electricity developer, is shunning the country’s first major solar auction on concerns that terms set by the government will make it difficult for projects to be built profitably. According to reports, Power sector regulator Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) chairman Pramod Deo who was in Chennai to participate in All India Conference of Chairmen of Central and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions said that the Renewable Energy Certificate Regulation would be implemented by January 2011 and the new PPA signed later would adhere to it.Deo said the process of trading in RECs will start in two months as registration has commenced with the Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO). ... Tamil Nadu invites Samsung to invest in Solar PV Cell production at its facility near Chennai

The Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister according to numerous reports in media, has invited the South Korean electronics giant Samsung to invest in a facility to produce solar photo-voltaic (PV) cells in the state while inaugurating the Samsung’s second refrigerator facility  in India (first unit is located in Noida) and the sixth in the world.
