Power minister Piyush Goyal announces 1,000 Megawatt wind energy auction scheme

According to reports, in a major step to enhance India’s renewable energy capacity, power, coal, renewable energy and mines minister Piyush Goyal today announced a scheme for auction of wind power projects of 1,000 Megawatt (MW) capacity that will kick off soon. Govt signs MoAs to purchase 1,000 MW wind power

According to reports, the government today announced signing of Memorandum of Agreements (MoAs) for purchase of 1,000 MW wind power under its first wind auction scheme. “MoAs for purchase of 1000 MW wind power under MNRE’s first wind auction scheme were signed here today between PTC India, the trading company, and discoms of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, Odisha and Assam,” Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said in a statement. Capacity additions in renewable energy on par with thermal power in 2016-17

According to reports, for the first time in the country, capacity additions in the renewable energy sector were close to those of the thermal power segment in 2016-17. The renewable energy sector has ended 2016-17 with a record capacity addition of 11,320 MW, though it fell short of its target (16,660 MW) for the year. LM Wind Power likely set up third plant in India

According to reports, barely a year after it commissioned its second manufacturing facility, in Vadodara, Gujarat, LM Wind Power, which makes blades for windmills, says it will need one more.
