India’s UAE Envoy Named Permanent Representative to IRENA

According to reports, India’s ambassador to the UAE T P Seetharam has been appointed as the country’s permanent representative to the Abu Dhabi-based International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

The move makes India 19th member of IRENA to designate a permanent representative to the inter-governmental organisation.

“India attaches great importance to the renewable energy sector and believes that only through a collaborative approach the goal of sustainable energy future can be realised. The accreditation of IRENA marks a significant step in this direction,” Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi said in a statement yesterday.

Seetharam formally presented his credentials as India’s permanent representative to Adnan Z Amin, Director-General of the IRENA, at a brief ceremony held at organisation’s headquarters.

IRENA is an inter-governmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation.

It promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development.
