Energy secretaries of states, chairman of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission to meet in Chennai

According to reports, Chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, joint secretary of the ministry of new and renewable energy and energy secretaries of several states will meet in Chennai next month to discuss issues relating to development of renewable energy in the country.

Energy secretaries of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will participate in the meeting.

The topics they will discuss include cooperation in adequate transmission infrastructure and grid interconnections, administrative hurdles in commissioning renewable energy projects, providing a boost to REC (renewable energy certificates) mechanism, making open access work and standardizing terms of power purchase agreements to lower risks and interest costs.The energy secretaries meet will happen as part of Renergy 2014, a conference-cum-exhibition on renewable energy organized by the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) from June 12 and June 14.

The energy secretaries meeting apart, TEDA, for the first time, is also organizing a range of workshops on themes like the role of solar in industrial heating applications, scheduling and forecasting for wind farms and waste-to-energy as part of the conference.
