SunEdison (NYSE: SUNE), a leading solar technology manufacturer and provider of solar energy services, today announced that it has collaborated with the Global Academy of Technology (GAT) in Bangalore to create a research and development facility at the college’s Bengaluru campus. Students will work with SunEdison scientists and engineers to research and improve technology for solar water pumps, energy storage solutions, hybrid energy systems, solar power plant monitoring and mounting structures.
The facility was inaugurated today at an event attended by senior members of India’s government including; D.K. Shivakumar; Nandan Nilekani, Chairman UIDAI, GOI; Sri. P. Ravi Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department; GoK, Sri Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Managing Director of BESCOM; Sri. G Kumar Naik, Managing Director of KPTCL; Sri. G.V. Balaram, Managing Director of KREDL and several members of parliament.
D.K. Shivakumar, Minister of Energy for Karnataka and Chairman of the National Education Foundation also attended the event and said “Having the SunEdison R&D Facility at GAT provides our students the opportunity to extend their academic experience into industry. They’ll be conducting research side by side with scientists and engineers from one of the world’s leading solar companies giving them a unique experience that will prepare them for successful careers.”
