According to reports, continuing its customer friendly initiatives, Bescom is readying to launch a web self service (WSS) portal on offering convenience, information and service to the customers 24×7. The online platform which is expected to cut down red tape and corruption in the power utility may be launched next one month.
“It will be an interactive online platform where citizens can submit new applications and expect their work to be done within a certain time frame as specified under the Sakala Services Act. The applicant can keep track of their application at every stage till it is implemented,” said Bescom managing director Pankaj Kumar Pandey addressing the members of Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) here on Wednesday.
He said the new portal will also be beneficial to people who don’t know whom to contact for a new power connection or any other services offered by Bescom. All documents including forms and guidelines, requisition formats and agreements will be made available to public through the portal, he added.
In another initiative, Pandey said Bescom has taken up implementation of prepaid smart meter project in select locations of electronic city on an experimental basis. Pandey said they have decided to go slow on the project since the technology on smart meters is evolving like the smart phones and they are not sure which technology is the best.
He also the state government proposed solar policy will address the issue of net metering for the solar rooftop generators to supply excess power to the grid. Domestic and commercial consumers, who had installed rooftop solar system, were a worried lot as they could not export the excess power to the grid.
