In September last year, the Indian Railways had formed a new entity — Renewable Energy Management Company — to handle its renewable energy portfolio.
The Railways has an installed capacity of 5 MW of solar and 10.5 MW of wind power. and announced plans of installing another 8 MW of solar power.
Given its size and presence across the country, the Railways has been asked by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to evaluate the potential of solar power generation.
The Ministry of Railways last week has called for applicant from within the ministry for the post of GM/CEO. The role description requires that the officer have more than 19 years of Group A service and would be required to work in development of renewable energy projects mainly wind and solar and in power trading.
