According to reports, a complaint was filed against the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) with its chief officer over the solar powered street lights that are installed around the MMC building and Margao garden that are not operational.
The complainant has asked the MMC to act on the complaint within 15 days failing which they would approach higher authorities including the vigilance and Lokayukta to carry out an inquiry into the matter. The issue of faulty solar powered lights and its non-maintenance has been raised at the council meetings where only promises were made to take corrective measures.
The complainant, Green Goa Foundation (GGF) , representing the concerned citizens of Margao further requested the MMC to direct the contractors to repair all the street lights which is paid by the citizens of Margao and to ensure that the municipal garden and around the municipal building are appropriately lit up for the safety of visitors and pedestrians.
“The municipality has made no efforts to direct the contractors to fulfill their obligation for providing maintenance/warranty,” said Raison Almeida, GGF chairman.
The complainant further requested that any future solar powered equipment is installed with an extended warranty of up to five years in order to make it financially feasible.
