According to reports, parliamentarian and legislators have emphasised on promoting renewable energy in the State as excess dependence on fossil fuels has adverse impact on climate.
Participating in a consultation titled ‘promoting legislative actions towards a clean energy future – climate Parliament Odisha’, legislators showed keenness in getting involved in a network that would promote development of renewable energy in the State.
Apart from Parliamentarians and legislators, the consultation was participated by renewable energy experts and civil society representatives here.
Legislators discussed on new policy initiatives, financial incentives and technological inputs that could bring about positive developments in the renewable energy sector of the State.
Shahshi Bhushan Behra, BJD Rajya Sabha member, underlined the need for bringing lawmakers to one forum for framing long-term action plan for the renewable energy sector.
There is immense potential of renewable energy in the State and the legislators can play a very important role by forming a house committee exclusively for renewable energy, Amar Prasad Satpathy said, adding that Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency should take leadership in this regard.
Among others Lok Sabha member Prasanna Patsani, legislators Prasanta Kumar Muduli, Prasnat Nanda, Mukunda Sodi and Ramakant Seth expressed their concern over the climate change impacts and environmental degradation in the State.
