According to reports, V. Bhaskar, former Special Chief Secretary, Finance Department, has assumed charge as Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.
After taking oath as Chairman of the Commission on Thursday, Venkataramani Bhaskar, IAS (Retd.), said it is a privilege to serve the power sector, which in turn, helps the overall economic development of the State.
P.K. Mohanty, Chief Secretary administered the oath of office and secrecy to V. Bhaskar in the presence of M. Sahoo, Special Chief Secretary, Energy, Munindra, Special Secretary and In-charge Chairman and Managing Director of AP Transco, K. Vijayanand, MD, AP Genco and others.
On September 19, V. Bhaskar, took voluntary retirement as Special Chief Secretary, Finance Department.
He said the Electricity Act, 2003, vested powers with the State Electricity Regulatory body to look into the interests of all the stakeholders of the power sector including generation companies, transmission and distribution licensees and ultimately the final pay master, the consumer.
The chairman said the regulatory commission would continue to function with commitment and determination to create the right atmosphere in development of power sector, promotion of competition among utilities with an ultimate objective of protecting the interests of the consumers. The accent would be on offering value added services and rationalisation of electricity tariff.
