As Panchabuta had earlier said, Gireesh Pradhan, a former secretary at the ministry of new and renewable energy, is expected to take over as the next chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, India’s apex power sector regulator. The power ministry had approved Pradhan’s name and his appointment was to be approved by the appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Panchabuta has learnt that the ACC has given its approval for appointment of Girish B Pradhan as the new Chairperson of CERC and the orders may appear in the next few days. Pradhan, a former IAS officer of the 1977 Maharashtra batch and had previously served as Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Dr Pramod Deo, the longest serving electricity regulator in India, had demitted the office in June this year.
