According to reports, India Independent Power Producers Association has selected Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission for the best regulator award for 2013.
The State regulator was a unanimous choice for this year’s award, an official spokesman announced here. It recognises efficiency in performance and also the transparency in decision-making, he added.
Kerala was selected from amongst entries from all States by a jury of international eminence. The award will be given away at the Regulators and Policy Makers Retreat to be held in Goa on Saturday.
The awards recognise the contribution of individuals, organisations, Indian States and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions who have significantly contributed to the development of the power sector in India.
All individuals, organisations, Indian States, State power regulatory commissions operating in any or multiple segments of the power industry in India are invited for the award in various different categories.
Deloitte is the knowledge partner for the awards. The preliminary screenings and evaluation for the nominations received were done by the knowledge partner before being submitted to the jury.
The jury members were Anil Razdan, former secretary, Ministry of Power; S.L. Rao, former chairman, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission; Ajay Shankar, member-secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council; and V. Subramanian, former secretary, Ministry of Non-Renewable Energy.
Award for the best regulator was amongst the 12 announced by the association.
The others are fastest growing independent power producer; best solar power producer; best wind power producer; best energy services company; best thermal power producer; best hydro power producer; best power transmission company; most-improved power distribution company; best State in power sector; best State in rural domestic power; and best performing State load dispatch centre.
