According to reports, several wind farm owners in Tamil Nadu are putting their windmills on the block. With the state electricity utility Tangedco (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) not providing transmission lines for windmills, companies are finding it unviable to run them.
“Many small wind farm owners are going in for distress sale as owning and operating farms is not viable anymore,” said K Kasturirangan, chairman of Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA).
“DLF sold its assets recently and several other IWPA members are looking to sell theirs. The windmills lie idle for more than half of the time and it is difficult for companies to work,” he said.
Kasturirangan said close to 50 million units of power are lost as the electricity utility doesn’t transmit the electricity generated.
