According to reports, a private firm will set up a wind farm at Kakthi that will generate 13MW of power. The work is already under progress and is expected to be completed within 4-5 weeks.
Belgaum is getting nearly 216mw of power through wind, if everything goes accordingly, an additional 13MW will be added to its tally. This will not go to grid instead it will be directly available to Belgaum city.
Every day, at an average, Belgaum Urban area needs nearly 130MW of power; 55MW to industries and nearly 60 to 65MW of power for domestic purposes. During rainy season, through wind power, the district generates nearly 200MW of power but during the off-season that is during summer it will be very less.
“Once the wind power is functional, the city will be getting additional 13MW of power. This power will not go to grid instead it will be directly coming to the city. So due to this, the complete 13MW of power can be utilised for the city purpose. The work is under progress and expected to be completed in four to five months time. Wind power farm is also set up in Chikkodi, Savadatti and other taluks in the district” added Nagaraj, chief engineer, HESCOM.
