According to reports, the Ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) has approved a grant of Rs 53 lakh to the University of Pune (UoP) to facilitate the establishment of a testing facility, for evacuated tubes used in solar water heaters, at its school of energy studies (SES).
Director of UoP’s board of college and university development V B Gaikwad said, “The university will also help in creating a similar test facility at the solar energy center, Gurgaon near Delhi.”
The SES ranks among one of the 11 institutions selected by the MNRE as center of excellence in renewable energy. “The main objective of the SES is to nurture the students into professionals who can be potential entreprenuers, researchers, service providers and consultants in renewable energy,” said Gaikwad.
“There is an ever growing demand for trained professionals in the field of new and renewable energy,” he said. “Under an HRD ministry programme, the MNRE is also committed to provide a one-time grant of Rs 50 lakh to the SES for laboratory and library upgradation,” he added.
The SES has made provision for fellowships for M.Tech, Msc and Ph.D studies in renewable energy. “The university is also considering creating an endowment fund of Rs 1.5 crore for creating a dedicated reserach chair in renewable energy,” he added.
