According to reports, with a name like SmartCity, can we expect anything less? No, not if you go by the proposed design for the first IT building of the project. The five-storey, environment-friendly building has been designed to meet the standards specified for LEED Platinum certification. The intelligent, centrally air-conditioned building will have energy conservation features such as heat reflecting coils.
After a review meeting in Kochi on Friday, SmartCity managing director Baju George said the building would only be the second one in the state to be constructed as per LEED Platinum specifications. “There will be heat reflecting coils to keep the temperature inside to a minimum. The fire fighting system will also follow National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. We will give the application for environmental clearance before June 15,” George said.
“The solar power potential will be tapped to the maximum. The design of the building will help to reduce consumption of water, energy etc. The construction will start in July,” he said.
Chief secretary E K Bharat Bhushan, who visited the project site on Friday, held talks with SmartCity authorities. “We gave him a memorandum, requesting the state government to provide proper infrastructure for the project. The extension of the Metro rail to SmartCity, the construction of four-lane roads connecting the project area to different parts of the district, etc, should also be taken up immediately. The chief secretary has responded positively to the demands,” he said.
“The state government is yet to give ‘patta’ for a few cents allotted for the project, and measures will be taken to ensure this is done without fail,” he said.
