According to reports, the state government has decided to provide solar lanterns to 40,500 weaver families in four years. the cost of the project has been approximately estimated at Rs 17.20 crore.
The project primarily aims at providing illuminated work places to weavers, facilitating weaving activities during failure of electricity or low voltage, reducing strain on eyes and facilitating them to work for extra hours and earn more. It was decided that the programme will cover all weaver families of the state in the trade as per data.
Each year, an estimated non-recurring expenditure of Rs 4.30 crore shall be made while the total estimated cost of the project for its scheduled duration shall be to the tune of Rs 17.20 crore approximately. Rs 1951.89 lakh has been earmarked for the current financial year 2013-14, out of which Rs 430 lakh shall be made available for implementation of the ‘solar lantern’ programme.
