Solar design and training workshop for college students in Tamil Nadu witnesses overwhelming response

More than 72 teams comprising of 195 members from 22 institutions had applied to take part in the first ever‘Solar Lamp Workshop’ that was held in SRM Easwari Engineering College, Chennai on Friday organized by IEEE SIGHT and The Solarillion Initiative. Tamil Nadu industry concerned at mandatory 6%, even for renewables users

According to reports, industrial units with captive renewable energy generation capacities are concerned over the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission’s order making it mandatory for them to meet the 6 per cent Solar Purchase Obligation. Biofuel blend can save Rs 120 billion annually: Study

According to reports, blending bio-fuels to the extent of 10 per cent with petrol and 5 per cent with diesel can result in annual savings of between Rs 8,000 crore and Rs 12,000 crore, says a study jointly done by the Confederation of Indian Industry and consultants A T Kearney. Kakatiya Energy Systems launches energy-saver switch

According to reports, energy management company Kakatiya Energy Systems has launched an outdoor lighting product, Nature Switch, an automated street lighting control system. Nature Switch is an off-the-shelf alternative to traditional lighting controls. It utilises innovative switching controls and when coupled with optional auto-dimming technology for HID (high intensity discharge) lamps, it can reduce up to 40 per cent of energy usage, the company said. 500 street lamps in Thiruvananthapuram to be replaced with LED

According to reports, when the Corporation is grappling with escalating power bills — they touched Rs.11 crore last year — some respite is on offer. Karnataka launches two projects to popularise use of biofuel

According to reports, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday launched two projects — Hombelaku and Hongirana — to decentralise biofuel extraction units and to offer biofuel products under one roof. The projects have been initiated by the Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board. Mr. Shettar said the BJP government had given utmost importance to biofuel by setting up the Biofuel Task Force in 2008, bringing out the Biofuel Policy in 2009 and setting up the Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board in 2010. ... Punjab issues RfP for 300 MW solar projects

According to reports, the Indian state of Punjab has released a request for proposals (RfP) for 300 MW-AC of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants, as the first phase of its state solar policy. The RfP will be based on a competitive solicitation against a benchmark tariff of INR 8.75 (USD 0.161) per kWh.
