ReGen Powertech announced the launch of its third generation 1.5 MW Wind Turbine V-87 at the Wind Power India 2012 conference in Chennai.
“V-87 is an evolution of ReGen’s proven 1.5 MW technology platform and the order win of 297 MW worth Rs 1800 crore during pre-launch of V-87 is a testament to our customer’s confidence in ReGen’s technology and capabilities to execute large-scale wind power projects. This is our third new turbine in the last four years that has been developed in cooperation with our technology partner Vensys Energy AG, Germany,” said Madhusudan Khemka, Managing Director, ReGen Powertech.
The 297 MW is spread across 4 customer orders in three states. They include Mytrah’s 100.5 MW wind farm in Tamil Nadu, Hetero Wind’s 54 MW wind farm in Andhra Pradesh, Renew Power’s 49.5 MW wind farm in Maharashtra and , NSL 75 MW wind farm in Maharashtra.
The V-87 turbine has tower heights of 85 meters. The new third generation rotor, enables it to deliver 15% increase in annual energy production over its first V-77 design and 5-7% increase in annual energy production over their V-82 design in the 85 meter configuration.
The V-87 turbine also has an inbuilt low voltage right through (LVRT) which leads to better compliance with grid regulation. A new blade design with rotor diameter of 87 meter offers a larger swept area enabling greater energy capture and power production from lower to medium wind speeds, according to the company.
