The Tamil Nadu government last month announced the “Tamil Nadu State Solar Energy Policy 2012” . The policy stipulates a target of 3000 MW capacity to be established by the end of 2015.
The policy has also made it mandatory for the HT Industrial and Commercial consumers to use Solar Power, under the Solar Purchase Obligation (SPO). SPO has been fixed as 3% for the year 2013 and 6% for the year 2014 out of their total energy consumption.
This would require a huge capacity of Solar Power Plants to be established in the state and TANGEDCO will be undertaking the steps necessary to facilitate the establishment of Solar Power plants of 1 MW and above capacity to an extent of 1000 MW in the first phase.
TANGEDCO proposes to procure the power so generated by the Solar Power Plants through the competitive bidding process and will enter into Long Term Power Purchase Agreement.
In this regard, TANGEDCO is conducting a meeting with prospective investors interested in setting up solar power plants in the state at 4:30 PM, Friday, 23.11.2012 at their head quarters in Chennai. It is expected that a number of key factors including payment security, evacuation and grid availability among others will be brought up by potential investors in this consultation meeting.
