According to reports, Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan today stressed the need for reducing the cost of production of solar power and asked scientists to suggest ways for making it affordable.
“Solar energy cannot be an effective alternative to the traditional thermal and hydel power unless its production cost is drastically reduced. Scientists should device ways for making solar power affordable,” he said.
The Governor was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Andhra Pradesh Science Congress’ at Acharya Nagarjuna University campus near here.
Referring to scientific inventions, he underscored the need to take their benefit to villages.
Narasimhan also called upon scientists to ensure that the cost of medical treatment is made affordable to the common man. “If medical treatment is within the reach of only the rich, it serves no purpose.”
