Science City in Punjab to run on solar power

According to reports, the Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC) in Kapurthala is all set to receive power from a solar plant. A 100 KW solar power plant has been installed at the science city and will be inaugurated soon. The plant has been built at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore, of which, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources contributed Rs 40 lakh.

R S Khandpur, director general, Science City, said the plant will directly feed power to the main grid.

He said as a part of efforts to create awareness on renewable energy, a state-level energy education programme and an Awareness Park have been set at the Science City. “Energy Park derives its total power requirement from a 20 KW solar plant,” he added. Khandpur added that Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas recently approved a Rs 10-lakh grant for educational games at the city.
