Andhra Pradesh mulls Energy Conservation Building Code

According to reports, as part of energy efficiency measures, the State government proposes to introduce Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) by October end.

The move was aimed at minimising energy consumption levels and avoid wastage in large in particular. Andhra Pradesh could demonstrate real leadership by adopting a State-based energy efficiency code for buildings to save electricity, especially in power-stressed times, Chief Secretary, Minnie Mathew said at a meeting held on Sunday with Principal Secretary, Energy, Mrutyunjay Sahoo and Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Busi Sam Bob.

Mr. Sahoo said that as per the report submitted by energy conservation committee, the power utilities have been directed to initiate immediate steps to achieve the targeted energy savings of around 10,000 to 15,000 MU per annum.

Observing that Hyderabad was one of the fastest growing city, Mr. Sam Bob said that real-estate development, which occupied an area of 1.95 million sqft. in 2005, was expected to be around 15 to 20 million sq.ft by 2013.
