According to reports, Chief Minister’s Solar Powered Green House Scheme gets the top billing in development activities in the district.
It has been planned to construct 1,033 green houses under the scheme in the current year in the district for which Rs.15.50 crore has been allotted.
Stating that all those below the poverty line are eligible to benefit under the State government’s flagship programme, Collector V. Shobana says that for 2011-12, a total of 1,043 green houses were sanctioned and Rs.15.65 crore granted to undertake the job.
Of them, already 613 houses have been completed involving a grant of Rs.9.19 crore while works on the balance 430 houses are in various stages of completion.
The State government grants Rs.1.50 lakh for constructing the houses and another Rs.30,000 for installing solar powered lighting system to manage five terminals.
The houses must measure at least 300 square feet. The beneficiaries must contribute any further amount from their kitty.
During 2011-12, of the 1,043 green houses sanctioned for the district, Karur union got 332 houses, Thanthoni 74, Aravakurichi 90, K.Paramathi 124, Kulithalai 71, Krishnarayapuram 84, Kadvur 126, and Thogamalai union got 142 houses, adds additional collector (development) T.G. Vinay.
