According to reports, Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister P Sudershan Reddy today directed the officials to prepare a comprehensive report on construction of mini-hydel power projects on river and major irrigation sources in the state. Transparency should be maintained in preparation of the report, he said.
Reddy was speaking at a meeting of Cabinet sub- committee, set up by the Government to prepare a roadmap for construction of mini-hydel power generation power projects in rivers and major irrigation sources. The sub-committee consists of Ministers N Raghuveera Reddy (Revenue), Kanna Laxmimarayana (Agriculture) and Sudershan Reddy besides officials from departments concerned.
The sub-committee members said hydel energy should be harnessed in view of increase in demand for electricity . Hydel projects should be undertaken without causing any damage done to crops and irrigation sources, they said. “All works related to selection of site, inviting tenders and other issues are to be made with consent of Non- Conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh,” Sudershan Reddy said.
The Government has already registered with NEDCAP 393 mini-hydel projects with a capacity of 994.119 MW. Of these, permission has been granted to 59 projects with a capacity to produce 183.03 MW, he said.
