Indians feel solar adoption should be faster: Survey

According to reports, a survey by Applied Materials, a manufacturer of solar photovoltaic equipment, says that over 51 per cent those surveyed felt that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s goal of increasing the contribution of renewable energy to 6 per cent of India’s total energy mix by 2022 was too slow.

Commenting on the importance of solar power, Dr Charlie Gay, President of Applied Materials’ Solar division, said, “By 2050, the world population is expected to plateau at nine billion people, and by that time it will be imperative we have a sustainable energy source in place that has the potential to solve our energy challenges for perpetuity.”

The survey was conducted in China, India, Japan and the US and at least 1,000 people were interviewed in each country.
