According to reports, Nuclear energy will not be able to solve the power crisis in India, said Dr Bikash Sinha, Homi Bhabha Professor at the Department of Atomic Energy, on Tuesday. The country therefore needs to focus on solar energy. Nuclear energy meets minimal demand for electricity in the country, he added.
“We have done very little to utilise solar energy options. India will have to do something seriously in this regard,” Dr Sinha said on the sidelines of a seminar on green economy organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The price of photovoltaic cells (that converts light energy into electricity) should be slashed to help the solar energy sector grow in the country, he said.
