Wind energy generation picks up in Tamil Nadu once again

According to reports, wind energy generation has been picking up in the State during the last few days, resulting in higher penetration to the grid.

K. Kasthoorirangaian, chairman of the Indian Wind Power Association, told The Hindu on Friday that for almost 24 hours since Thursday, wind energy penetration to the State’s grid was more than 30 per cent. Last year, the penetration went up to 30 per cent.

Of the installed wind energy capacity of nearly 7,000 MW in the State, the generation was 3,248 MW on Thursday evening and 3,179 MW on Friday morning. Of the total consumption of 227 million units, 75 million units were from wind energy on Thursday, he said. Mr. Kasthoorirangaian said thermal energy generation would also increase next month.
