India may auction offshore wind farms

According to reports, the government has initiated the process of putting in place a policy to auction, or award,  offshore wind farms in a way that could be similar to the auction of oil and gas blocks. Wind energy remains preferred investment proposition of renewable investors in India

According to reports, despite policy and regulatory uncertainties, tight credit situation and cautious market sentiment, wind energy remained a preferred investment proposition of renewable investors in India through 2011. Of the total investment of $10.2 billion in renewable energy, $4.6 billion was invested in wind energy. India had the third-most new installations in 2011, behind China and the US. Arun ice-cream maker Hatsun Agro eyes wind power

According to reports, Hatsun Agro Product, the Chennai-based dairy known for brands such as Arun ice-cream, is scouting for partners in wind power generation. The company has told stock exchanges that its board of directors have approved investment not less than 26% in a partnership firm, limited liability partnership or body corporate engaged either in windmill or any other mode of power generation. 10,000 solar-based water systems to be installed in Naxal affected districts in India

The Centre today announced that 10,000 solar-based water systems will be installed in the 78 maoist-affected districts to meet the challenges of drinking water scarcity in these areas. Rural Development Minister Shri Jairam Ramesh said here that 540 crore rupees have been earmarked for this project and added that 200 such systems have already been set up in Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra. Delhi’s new tariff order to mandate use of 2% green energy

According to reports, alongside the revised  domestic tariff for financial year 2012-13,  Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) is all set to start the process for  green energy. In the upcoming tariff order, the regulator is going to announce a 2%  renewable energy obligation for  Delhi discoms, a move which has already been delayed considerably and has many consumers worried about the costs involved.
