Sterlite Industries expands wind capacity installation in India to around 274 MW

In January last year, Suzlon, had signed an agreement with Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company and the world’s largest producer of zinc, to set up, operate and maintain 150 megawatt (MW) of wind power projects across the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company in its announcement of limited results for the second quarter and the half year ended 30 September 2011 said it had commissioned 105MW of the 150MW expansion in wind power generation capacity announced in January 2011. The balance capacity was expected to be commissioned in Q3 FY2012.

The company in its consolidated results for the third quarter and nine months ended 31 December 2011 said it had commissioned 135MW of the 150MW expansion in wind power generation capacity announced in January 2011.

The company in its fourth-quarter announcement for the quarter ended March 31, said the wind power generation capacity stands at around 274 MW, making the company one of the largest wind power producer in India.
