Chennai home to 20% of eco-friendly certified buildings by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)

In a study that covered the various sectors in India and the potential of ICT in each of them to Cut Carbon Footprint,  Commercial Buildings had the maximum saving potential of 42%.

Suzlon’s headquarters-Suzlon One Earth, a project carried out by Synefra Engineering and Construction (a Tanti Group Company)  bagged the ‘Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum rating’ from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Indian arm of the US Green Building Council. Also, Infosys BPO Jaipur  had obtained the LEED ‘Platinum’ rating and earlier the , Infosys BPO  had been awarded the 5-star rating for energy efficiency by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for its building located in its Phase 2 campus in Hinjewadi.

According to reports, Chennai is home to 42 of the 212 structures in India that are certified as eco-friendly by the Indian  Green Building Council (IGBC).
Chennai is followed by Mumbai, with 29 green buildings, and  the National Capital Region (28), among cities awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by IGBC. Hyderabad and Bangalore are tied in fourth place with 24 each and Kolkata is sixth with eight.
