Sugar industry welcome TN decision on sugarcane pricing and ethanol programme

According to reports, the Tamil Nadu Government has struck a fine balance between the sugarcane farmers and the sugar mills in fixing the sugarcane price for the 2011-12 season, according to Dr Palani G. Periasamy, Chairman, PGP Group. Centre for Wind Energy Technology (CWET) plans to conduct a feasibility study for offshore wind in coastal Tamil Nadu

According to reports, the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (CWET) plans to conduct a feasibility study in Dhanushkodi near Rameswaram to set up offshore windmills, following problems of land acquisition for onshore wind power projects. Sources said wind velocity at 100 metres from ground level would be measured and data collected. “It will be set up in a lagoon. GE, Siemens Win India Solar Turbine Orders to Offset U.S. Slump

According to reports, General Electric Co. (GE), Siemens AG (SIE) and Areva SA (AREVA) have won orders from India’s largest solar plants requiring conventional turbines, helping to offset a slump in the U.S. where developers are scrapping such projects. Reliance Power Ltd. (RPWR), controlled by billionaire Anil Ambani, and Lanco Infratech Ltd. (LANCI) are among seven companies building a third of India’s planned sun-powered capacity to 2013 using solar-thermal technology which concentrates sunlight to boil water to power steam turbines.
