India is giving special focus to research in solar energy

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is giving special focus on research in solar energy. 36 R&D projects in solar thermal and photovoltaic technologies are under implementation.  A Centre for Solar Thermal Research has been set up at IIT Rajasthan, Jodhpur. PTC India in talks with sovereign wealth fund for PE venture

Power Finance Corporation (PFC) of India  decidced to form subsidiary to focus on renewable energy projects and their funding in November of 2010. PTC India Financial Services listed on the Indian stock markets in April this year. Earlier, PFS was in talks to tie up with two foreign PE players and launch a $100 million fund. Gujarat Regulator to hear petitions of solar power developers

According to reports, the fate of as many as 29 odd solar power developers in Gujarat will be decided by the electricity regulator, Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) on Friday, December 30, 2011 as the later will take up the hearing on the petitions filed by the companies for extension of control period of Solar power in the state. Delhi’s rooftop solar power policy a non-starter

NTPC signs PPA with Andhra Pradesh Discoms for 10 MW solar PV plant at Ramagundam

According to reports, power generation major NTPC Ltd., has announced it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Andhra Pradesh Distribution Companies – Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd.(EPDCL), Northern Power Distribution Company Ltd.(NPDCL) and Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd.(SPDCL) for a 10 mw project.
