According to reports, the draft master plan to make Surat a solar city suggests setting up of a solar generating equipment on top of a multi-storeyed building to operate elevators and passage light.
The master plan, which was placed on Tuesday before the stakeholders committee comprising academicians and industrialists among others, “Contains a detailed mechanism on how to make Surat a solar city,” said Jatin Shah, city engineer.
It has been submitted 15 months after Surat and 60 other cities in the country had declared their aim to become a solar city. The master plan also advocates use of small energy consuming bulbs, setting up of wind mills, use of solar water heaters, green building etc.
The plan proposals were discussed at the meet chaired by Surat municipal commissioner M K Das. For achieving the status of solar city, the use of conventional energy needs to be reduced by 10 per cent.
A Gurgaon-based consultancy firm Deloitte had been entrusted with the task to make the draft master plan. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had released Rs 6.73 lakh for the appointment of consultant from the sanctioned grant of Rs 43 lakh.
