Tamilnadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) in association with Rotary International today organized the valedictory function at The National College Auditorium, Trichy. The valedictory function was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Natham Thiru R. Viswanathan, Minister for Electricity, Prohibition & Excise, Government of Tamilnadu and the Guest of honour Hon’ble Thiru. M. Paranjothi, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE), Law, Courts and Prisons, Govt. of Tamilnadu.
Special Guests, Tmt. A. Jaya, Worshipful Mayor, Trichy Corporation, Thiru. Kumar, Member of Parliament, Trichy, Thiru. Sivapathy, MLA., Trichy, Tmt. Jayashree Muralidharan, I.A.S., District Collector, Trichy, Thiru. S. Rajendaran, District Governor, RI. District 3000 were present at the function along with Mr. Sudeep Jain, I.A.S., Chairman and Managing Director, TEDA, the organizer of the event and other Government officials to grace the occasion with their presence.
The Valedictory function marked the culmination of the State level inter school renewable energy competitions with the felicitation of the three best entries by the Chief Guest and the Guest of honour.
The first prize winners were awarded with a battery operated two-wheeler and the runner ups were awarded with other Renewable Energy gadgets like, Renewable Energy home kit and solar lanterns.
The State level inter school competitions were conducted across cites in Tamilnadu as part of TEDA’s ‘Green Energy Virumbuvom’ campaign. Over four lakh students from 750 plus schools across cities in Tamilnadu participated in various competitions such as Drawing and collage for classes VI to VIII, Essay and Elocution for Classes IX to XI.
Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Sudeep Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Tamilnadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) said, “It is an honour for TEDA to be working closely with the Government of Tamilnadu and our Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. J. Jayalalithaa to promote the various source of renewable energy through our innovative Green Energy Virumbuvom campaign. With a strong support from the Government, Stakeholders, volunteer organizations like Rotary, Teachers, Students and the Public, this campaign will reach every household in Tamilnadu”
He added “This initiative is just a seed. We are confident that this will branch out to many generations to come and bring about a greater change in the society. Like our tagline goes, renewable energy is the ‘ultimate Akshaya Pathra’ for the future generation”
Apart from the State level interschool competitions, TEDA is also conducting a series of activities in Tamilnadu such as, the Mobile Exhibit van containing renewable energy gadgets (for imparting practical knowledge), Green cycle rally for school students and an International Conference cum Expo on Renewable Energy is tentatively scheduled on the 11th and 12th March 2012 and it will be presided over by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Dr. J. Jayalalithaa.
