Indian renewable policies are cutting-edge: UK minister

According to reports,

Indian renewable energy policies are cutting-edge, Gregory Barker MP and minister of state for energy and climate change in the UK said here on Wednesday.

Barker was in the city to talk about the latest public policy initiative designed to promote green energy and mitigate climate change in the run-up to COP17 in December.

COP17, the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 7th Session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the parties (CMP7) to the Kyoto Protocol, will be held in the sunny city of Durban, South Africa.

Barker visited One Earth, headquarters of the Suzlon Group and the greenest facility of its kind in the world. The visit is part of his India tour focusing on low carbon growth.

Barker said, “David Cameron pledged we would be Britain’s greenest government ever; I can assure you that we will deliver on that pledge. And what is more, the transformation of our energy sector is at the centre of our plans.”

“The UK and India are working together on the connected issues of securing the new energy supplies we need for the future and tackling climate change. With this combination of mutual respect, Indian entrepreneurialism, UK’s capital market expertise and the lessons business has learned from UK and Indian policy experiences, the future can be very bright,” he said.

Tulsi R Tanti, founder-chairman and MD of Suzlon Group, said, “Gregory Barker has brought insight and focus to the climate change debate on the international stage, and back home in the UK he has been driving progressive policy development and helping to build a low carbon economy. We are fortunate to have such a capable and energetic minister leading this critical policy area in the British government.”
