Repower to Supply 12 Turbines for Alaska’s Biggest Wind Farm

According to reports, Repower Systems SE, a German unit of the India turbine maker Suzlon Energy Ltd. (SUEL), won an order to supply what will become Alaska’s largest wind farm.

Hamburg-based Repower signed a contract for the delivery of 12 of its “cold climate” turbines with 2.05 megawatts of capacity each with Golden Valley Electric Association Inc., a U.S. utility that is commissioning a 24.6-megawatt wind farm near Ferry, Alaska, Repower said today in an e-mailed statement.

The turbines from Asia’s third-largest turbine maker are designed to withstand the harsh Alaskan climate and will be the first delivered to the project, Repower said. The wind farm is scheduled to start operating next fall, the company said.
