Bihar should seek funds for generation of renewable energy

According to reports, international environmental NGO Greenpeace today urged the Bihar government to seek funds from the Centre under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) scheme for generation of renewable energy.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should demand funds from the Centre under the RGGVY scheme for generation of renewable energy during the National Development Council (NDC) meeting in New Delhi to be held later this month, Greenpeace India campaigner Aparna Udupa told reporters.

Stating that Bihar was among those states having the potential to generate renewable energy, she said that the generation of energy from alternative sources will help the state government tide over the acute power crisis. Udupa said that the rural electrification has a long way to go as 25 per cent of the rural population, estimated at about 30 crores were not getting power despite the fact the grid infrastructure has reached upto 90 per cent of the area under the RGGVY.
