India May Require Wind Turbine Suppliers to Open Local Factories

According to reports, India may require international suppliers of wind turbines to establish local factories, according to a draft of new policy guidelines released by the government. Turbines made by companies that sell more than 15 megawatts of machines in India without establishing an “adequate manufacturing facility” may be uprooted at their owners’ cost and will face “heavy” penalties, according to a document on the website of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. OPIC to provide $150 mn to India for solar powered telecommunication towers

According to reports, a US agency has announced to provide a financial assistance of USD 150 million to India to expand use of solar powered telecommunication towers. The decision by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is expected to reduce CO2 emissions and create jobs in both the US and India. “This project brings OPIC’s financing for renewable energy in India to more than USD 400 million approved in just the past year,” said OPIC President and CEO Elizabeth Littlefield. ... Competition cuts solar power cost

According to reports, Solar electricity has finally joined the national power grid in India. What’s more significant, it has entered the grid at a cost far less than expected, reducing the need for heavy government subsidies to make the sector viable. Suzlon’s wind power project in Gujarat caught in envorinment row
