400 Telecom Towers supported in pilot project for use of Solar Photovoltaic power systems by MNRE for FY11 in India

During FY 2010-11, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has supported pilot projects for use of Solar Photovoltaic power systems for 400 telecom towers.

Giving this information in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah said this has been done primarily with a view to demonstrate the efficacy of such systems in substitution/ abatement of diesel based power generation in case of towers located in off-grid/ power deficit areas.

This includes 100 towers of Airtel in Bihar, 100 towers of Indus in Andhra Pradesh, 100 towers of GTL in Uttar Pradesh and 100 towers of BSNL in more than 12 states.

  1. Do you have any information about solar- or renewable-power cell towers or pilot projects that are already in operation? Thanks, George

  2. Has MNRE given 30% subsidy to all the 400 towers?
