Suzlon announces 85 MW of new orders for wind turbines in India

According to reports, wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Energy Limited today said it had got new orders of 85 MW in India, underscoring the strong growth in the Indian wind energy market.

“India’s wind market is unique in its mix of consumers and we strive to meet the varied requirements of each of them. These orders reflect the confidence our customers have in our products and services,” Mr Tulsi R. Tanti, founder-Chairman and Managing Director of Suzlon said.

A press release from the company said the new orders were from a broad range of customers in corporate, public sector and small/medium business segments.

They include GAIL India Ltd, which has placed a 14.7 MW order comprising seven units of Suzlon’s S88 – 2.1 MW wind turbines, to be commissioned in Gujarat within six months. This is the second wind energy project order placed by GAIL with Suzlon.

Other key orders include Khatau Narbheram & Co, Oswal Group, KRBL Limited, and Varun Industries Limited.

“It is noteworthy that more than 40 per cent of these orders are repeat business from existing customers – a testimony to Suzlon’s market leadership in India,” the release said.

According to it, India has a cumulative installed base of over 14,000 MW, nearly 70 per cent of total renewables input in India.

The total estimated onshore wind power potential in India, as per data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), is over 48,000 MW.
