According to an official spokesman, in the first phase rooftop SPVs systems were being installed at Central University, Bathinda, Guru Gobind Singh Educational Trust, Kamalpura Ludhiana, gyan Sagar Medical College Banur, Shivalik Public School SAS Nagar Mohali and Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh with the combined capacity of 230 kilowatt.
He said the work on solar lighting of these institutions was set to be completed in next four months.
He said that these projects were being set up under the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) for Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Projects in order to promote the utilization of Solar Energy for captive consumption in Educational buildings.
He said that the power from Solar Energy would be generated during the day time and be consumed in these buildings when the load is there during the day time. He said this would help in offsetting the requirement of conventional grid electricity and would also provide backup power during grid outage for critical loads in these buildings.
He said these projects were supported to the tune of 30 per cent of the project cost as financial grant through MNRE, Government of India and PEDA was encouraging the setting up of more such projects in commercial/educational/industrial establishments.
He said that the main focus would be on utilization of rooftops for generation of Solar Electricity so that power could be generated at the load centres without Transmission and Distribution losses.
