Anand Prakash, MD (South-East Asia) of FE Clean Energy Asia talks about Clean Energy Investing in India to VCCircle.
Panchabuta is glad to see Mr. Anand Prakash resonate a lot of themes that we have been discussing about on this forum and the huge opportunities for IPP’s and developers. Interesting to see his comments on how returns in renewable energy is dependent on multiple factors with variable pricing including merchant power tariffs, CDM prices, REC certificate among others. He offers great insight in distinguishing between the returns from a typical thermal power project and those in renewable energy , the risk and the lack of knowledge that results in the challenge in evaluating that risk.
As we had talked about yesterday, even IPP’s backed by veteran industry equity players are unaware of the industry developments like successful completion of repowering projects in India.
It is this kind of information asymmetry that we wish to bridge here at Panchabuta as this new and emerging sector evolves.
Very interesting thoughts and view by Anand Prakash on solar and we broadly are in agreement with his thoughts specially on off grid, but we do believe at Panchabuta, that the on grid 20GW target by solar mission too is not as over ambitious as he says and is definitely possible if the right steps are taken and learnings incorporated in the second and third phase of the national solar mission.
