Regen Powertech 450MW manufacturing facility in Rajasthan to commence production by January 2012

ReGen Powertech is a wind turbine manufacturer that offers total “Turnkey Solutions” for wind power projects that includes consultancy, manufacturing, supply, erection, commissioning, operations and maintenance services of wind turbines.

ReGen manufactures technologically advanced wind turbines at its well planned, state-of-the-art production facility near Tada in Andhra Pradesh, India. The plant houses a sophisticated assembly line and a completely integrated in-house R&D Center. The company currently manufactures about 200 gearless wind turbine generators of 1.5 MW capacity per annum which it proposes to increase to 500 wind turbine generators by 2010.

ReGen has a technical licensing agreement with Vensys Energy AG, Germany, a globally leading name in wind turbine design and development.

As readers of Panchabuta might be aware, Nuziveedu Seeds Group, India’s largest seed company, and Everstone Capital are majority shareholders in ReGen Powertech a Wind Turbine manufacturer in Chennai, India.  The promoter management led by Madhusudhan Khemka, an industry veteran in the wind energy space, also holds shares in the firm.

The Chennai-based ReGen’s revenue is estimated at around Rs 500 crore and has most recently raised $35mn from General Atlantic PE.

According to reports, the company expects to begin production at the new facility near Udaipur in the western Rajasthan state by January, K. Varahala Rao, a director at the company, said in an interview in Chennai today. The plant will be able to produce up to 300 turbines a year, he said.

The Chennai-based company will also introduce a new 2.5- megawatt turbine during the financial year ending March 2013, Rao said.

As Tamil Nadu is almost saturated with installations and with activity shifting to Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan the location of the new manufacturing plant by Regen Powertech seems to be a good idea. With number of manufactures scaling up operations and with the increase of IPP’s , most manufacturers are  moving into multi megawatt machines of ratings between 2-3MW in India. This move by Regen Powertech to manufacture 2.5MW is a much needed move to catch up with the industry leaders.

Regen Powertech has witness a lot of order bookings recently including that by some of the largest IPP’s in the country, because of their turnkey solution offerings. Further, the locational advantage and their possession of some of the best available wind sites in Tamil Nadu-India has led to these huge orders according to sources.
