Haryana government to tap solar power potential

Haryana now seems to have jumped on to the solar bandwagon. The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) has decided to tap the vast solar energy potential of the country by venturing into the field of solar power generation.

The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) has decided to tap the vast solar energy potential of the country by venturing into the field of solar power generation.

..Madhusudan Prasad, financial commissioner & principal secretary said solar energy has great potential as a future energy source, therefore, the board of directors of HPGCL has decided to set up grid interactive solar power plants on turnkey basis, on the available land at its thermal and hydel generating stations at Panipat, Yamunanagar and Hisar.

..He said setting up of solar plant with earning of carbon credits as one of the main objectives shall make the project more viable.

..As a first step HPGCL will engage the services of a reputed consultant to prepare feasibility cum detailed project reports (FDPRs) to identify the actual potential of solar power generation from the available land at its thermal and hydel generating stations. Prasad said HPGCL is fully committed to set up the solar power projects during 2010-11, and to take the process further on a fast track, a solar and renewable energy cell has already been created.

As Panchabuta has mentioned earlier (here and here) there has been a number of announcements of  JV’s , partnerships,  technology collaboration between local and foreign partners  in the past few months to provide turnkey EPC solutions in the grid connected Solar space. The evolution of this eco-system will remain vital to the success of the JNNSM.
