Clenergen recently leased 5000 Acres of land in Tamilnadu for 49 years for Biomass Plantation. It was intended that this land would yield the entire feedstock that was needed to implement a 32 MW biomass power project.
Now, Clenergen Corporation signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Growmore Biotech to undertake commercial trials of Clenergen’s tree species and bamboo on 900 acres of land under agreement in India, Ghana, Guyana and Philippines. Currently the company have scheduled 22,000 acres under 49 year lease agreements in these regions, which are projected to yield over 880,000 tonnes of biomass per annum by 2014 and provide fuel supply for 110MW/h of biomass power plant capacity.
Plantation and agronomy management services will be provided by Growmore Biotech and the Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu, India, under the guidance of Professor K. Muthuchelian, whose experience in biomass has been recognized by governments throughout the world.

Muthuchelian is currently the Director for Biodiversity and Forest Studies at the Madurai Kamaraj University, and Professor and Head of the School of Energy, Environment and Natural Resources at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and has authored a number of books including those on Forest Biodiversity.
